On January 1, 2022, Maryhaven Center of Hope became a subsidiary of Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc. (IGHL). Established in 1978 as a not-for-profit dedicated to providing lifetime services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), It is the mission of IGHL to develop and implement innovative programs, services, and advocates for people with IDD so that they can realize their full potential and become contributing members of their community.
President and Chief Executive Officer Walter Stockton founded this agency 43 years ago and has dedicated his lifelong work to valuing and supporting people with IDD so that they may live an enriched life. Walter, along with his staff, administrative team, and board of directors; has worked hard and has never lost sight of fostering a community that adheres to the belief that the dignity of every person is indeed the foundation to a moral and just society, regardless of their background, social or economic status, or physical and mental capabilities.
Limited resources and looming state budgets have made it hard for social service agencies like IGHL to stand alone and support the operating costs of the entire continuum of services needed for this vulnerable population. As a result, IGHL has built a network infrastructure that allows other providers to work in solidarity to realize the most excellent efficiencies. Affiliate agencies include Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc., The New Interdisciplinary School, The Center for Developmental Disabilities, Inc., The Association for Technology Dependent Children, Inc./d.b/a Angela's House, Head Injury Association, Inc., Maryhaven, Inc. and East End Disability Associates.
This network supports more than 10,000 people annually through 150 residential opportunities and a complete service network in locations throughout Suffolk and Nassau Counties, NY. In total there are 3,200 employees.
